Take a Break

Privacy Policy

Effective date: September 18, 2026

Overview

This Privacy Policy explains how the Take a Break website and macOS app handle information.

Take a Break is designed to work primarily on your Mac without requiring an account. The app stores its settings and usage statistics locally on your device. The website uses Vercel Web Analytics to understand aggregate website traffic and improve the quality of the site.

We do not sell personal information or use the app's local timer or break statistics for behavioral advertising.

Information handled by the website

The Take a Break website does not require you to create an account and does not currently provide a form that asks you to submit personal information.

Like most websites, the hosting and network infrastructure used to deliver and secure the site may process ordinary technical information such as your IP address, browser or user-agent information, the pages or files requested, request timestamps, and related security or network logs.

Web analytics

We use Vercel Web Analytics to understand how the website is used and to help us evaluate traffic, performance, and site quality.

Vercel Web Analytics automatically records page views and may process information such as:

  • the page or URL path visited;
  • the time of the visit;
  • the referring page or site;
  • filtered query parameters;
  • approximate geographic information;
  • browser and browser version;
  • operating system and version;
  • device type.

Vercel describes Web Analytics as privacy-focused, aggregated analytics. It does not use a persistent identifier that allows us to track you across unrelated websites or applications. Vercel currently identifies analytics visitors using a hash created from the incoming request and states that the visitor-session identifier is discarded after 24 hours.

Analytics information is sent to and processed by Vercel as our website analytics provider.

We use this information to understand website usage, diagnose problems, measure performance, maintain and improve the website, and make product and content decisions. We do not use Vercel Web Analytics for behavioral advertising, and we do not sell analytics data.

Cookies and similar technologies

Vercel Web Analytics does not currently rely on third-party cookies for visitor identification.

The website may use cookies, local storage, or similar technologies in the future for site operation, quality measurement, performance, security, service improvement, or additional features.

If we introduce technologies that require notice, consent, opt-out controls, or other choices under applicable law, we will provide those controls as required.

Information stored by the macOS app

The Take a Break app stores information locally on your Mac so that the app can remember your preferences and display its statistics.

This local information may include:

  • app settings and configuration;
  • the date associated with the current statistics;
  • work minutes;
  • rest minutes;
  • breaks taken;
  • breaks skipped.

The app may also create local cache files needed for normal operation, such as a generated alert sound.

In the current version, this locally stored app data is not transmitted to the developer, and the app does not include developer-operated app analytics, app telemetry, behavioral advertising, or crash-reporting transmission.

Website analytics described above are separate from the app's locally stored timer and break data.

macOS and Apple services

Take a Break may use normal macOS features, such as system notifications. Apple and macOS may process information as part of providing the operating system, App Store, notification, security, or related platform services. Apple's handling of that information is governed by Apple's own terms and privacy policies.

Support and email

If you contact us at hello@cod3naut.com, we will receive your email address, your message, and any other information you choose to provide.

We may retain support correspondence for as long as reasonably necessary to respond to your request, maintain support records, protect the service, or comply with applicable legal obligations.

Third-party service providers

The website relies on service providers for hosting, network delivery, analytics, domain, and email infrastructure.

In particular, we use Vercel Web Analytics for aggregate website traffic analytics. Vercel processes analytics information on our behalf according to its own terms, documentation, and privacy practices.

Other hosting and network providers may process technical information as necessary to provide their services and may maintain operational or security logs under their own policies.

If you obtain Take a Break through the Mac App Store or another marketplace or payment provider, that provider may process purchase, account, payment, or transaction information under its own terms and privacy policy. Take a Break does not receive or control all information handled by those providers.

Data retention and your local app data

Because Take a Break's settings and usage statistics are stored locally on your Mac, that information generally remains on your device until it is reset, overwritten, or deleted through the app, macOS, or manual removal of the app's local data.

Removing the application itself may not automatically remove files stored in your macOS Application Support or cache directories.

Website analytics data is retained according to Vercel Web Analytics' applicable retention and aggregation practices. Vercel currently states that the visitor-session identifier used by Web Analytics is discarded after 24 hours.

Support correspondence may be retained for as long as reasonably necessary for support, recordkeeping, security, or legal purposes.

Sale of personal information

We do not sell or rent personal information, and we do not use the app's local timer or break data or Vercel Web Analytics for behavioral advertising.

Security

We use reasonable measures appropriate to the nature of the website and app, but no website, application, device, analytics system, or method of transmission or storage can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

Children

Take a Break is a general-audience productivity application and is not directed to children. The website does not currently ask visitors to create accounts or submit personal information through forms.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as the website, app, analytics, cookies, service providers, or our information practices change.

The effective date at the top of this page indicates when the policy was last revised.

If a change materially affects how we collect, use, or share personal information, we will provide any additional notice or choices required by applicable law.
