Take a Break
Terms of Use
Effective date: September 18, 2026
Acceptance of these terms
By accessing or using the Take a Break website or app, you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the website or app.
What Take a Break is
Take a Break is a macOS timer and reminder application designed to help users structure periods of work and breaks.
It is a general-purpose productivity and wellness-support tool. It is not a medical device and does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.
Permitted use
You may use the Take a Break website and app for lawful personal or professional purposes, subject to these Terms and any applicable marketplace or platform terms.
You may not use the website or app to violate applicable law, interfere with the service or other systems, distribute malicious software, or attempt to gain unauthorized access to systems or services.
No medical advice
Break timing, movement, posture, and health needs vary from person to person.
If you have pain, an injury, a medical condition, or questions about what type or frequency of breaks, movement, exercise, or computer use is appropriate for you, consult a qualified healthcare professional.
Do not rely on Take a Break as a substitute for professional medical, ergonomic, or other expert advice.
No guaranteed results
Take a Break can provide timers, reminders, notifications, and optional break-blocking features, but you remain responsible for how you use them.
You may ignore, skip, disable, postpone, or work around reminders and breaks.
We do not guarantee that using Take a Break will:
- cause you to take breaks;
- improve your focus;
- increase productivity;
- improve your health;
- prevent discomfort, pain, injury, or other health problems;
- produce any particular result.
Taking regular breaks may be one part of a broader approach to work habits and wellbeing, but many factors affect health, comfort, focus, and productivity.
Software availability, errors, and compatibility
Software can contain defects, experience interruptions, or behave unexpectedly.
We do not promise that Take a Break will be:
- error-free or bug-free;
- uninterrupted or always available;
- compatible with every Mac, display, application, macOS version, system configuration, permission setting, or future operating-system change;
- free from timing inaccuracies or unexpected behavior;
- able to display every timer, reminder, notification, blocker, or other feature exactly when or how you expect.
You should not rely on the app for safety-critical, medical, emergency, or other time-sensitive purposes where a missed or inaccurate reminder could cause harm.
User responsibility
You are responsible for:
- deciding whether Take a Break is suitable for your circumstances;
- configuring the app appropriately;
- choosing whether to follow, skip, or disable reminders;
- maintaining your own computer and macOS environment;
- using your own judgment about work, rest, movement, health, and safety.
The app is a reminder tool, not a substitute for your own judgment.

We disclaim warranties to the extent permitted by law, including any implied warranty that the app or website will meet every user's needs, achieve a particular result, or operate without interruption, defect, or error.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranty exclusions, so some of these exclusions may not apply to you.
